What is SEO?
Yes it’s Search Engine Optimisation, but what does that mean?
As part of my digital marketing course I’m trying to dig deeper into marketing terms to determine where my focus should be. ‘SEO’ keeps coming up…
Basically good SEO can improve the number of people coming to your website. The way this happens is complicated, but stay with me.
This is what’s important: good website UX, quick loading times, helpful design, useful content, a responsive site, activating any redirects from old sites, primary use of keywords in headlines, sharing options for your content, helpful page URL descriptions and many other ‘small’ things that can make a big impact to your websites SEO.
Content is also crucial. Good content must be linkable. If people can’t link to share it, search engines might not rank it, and as a result the content won’t drive traffic to your website, e.g. when content can only be assessed after logging in. Content that shares general interest information is also more likely to be shared, thus helping build your SEO.
